In this part of the laboratory exercise, you will construct the base graticule for a Mollweide projection of the entire earth with an equatorial perspective. The map will show latitudes in 10 degree increments and longitudes in 20 degree increments.
Follow these steps.
Hold down the Shift key while you click here to go to the Maple worksheet (called mollweid.mws) for this assignment.
Save the file mollweid.mws to your own floppy disk or hard drive.
Start the Maple program and open the file you have just saved.
Follow the instructions in the Maple file.
Print out a full page copy , with landscape page orientation, of the graticule you have created. (In Maple, select Options/Plot Display/Window, then execute the plot display command line in your worksheet to open the plot in its own window. Then click the Print button on the plot display window's toolbar. Select Setup and change the page orientation to Landscape. Then click OK to get a full page printout.)
In the second part of this laboratory exercise, you will use the base graticule you just prepared with Maple to prepare an actual map of either the northern or southern hemisphere of the earth.
To continue on to the second part of this laboratory exercise, go to mollmap2.htm.
Be patient. This takes time.
Be careful. This is not necessarily an easy task.
If you have problems, or are unsure, seek help.
Enjoy!
